SUMMARY:Fragility of Democracy Session 4 - "When Law Becomes Weapon"
DESCRIPTION:Session 4 – When Law Becomes Weapon: The Nuremberg Laws and the End of Citizenship\nThe law should protect\, not persecute.\n\n\nJoin us for the fourth session of the Fragility of Democracy workshop series. \nSession 4 – When Law Becomes Weapon: The Nuremberg Laws and the End of CitizenshipThe law should protect\, not persecute. \nIn 1935\, the Nuremberg Laws stripped Jewish citizens of their rights\, turning prejudice into policy. Using testimony and legal documents\, this session examines how laws can be twisted to exclude and how “order” can hide injustice. \nKey Takeaway: The rule of law depends on the courage of those who write\, interpret\, and enforce it.

SUMMARY:"Mezuzah Traces: Memory on the Doorposts of Poland"
DESCRIPTION:Bring to light the quiet\, physical remnants of Jewish life in Poland through the lens of an object both sacred and symbolic: the Mezuzah.\n\n\nThe Holocaust Center of Florida is proud to present Mezuzah Traces\, an evocative exhibition by the Polish-Jewish design studio MI POLIN in Warsaw. \nThe first in our Memory Keepers cultural exchange program\, this powerful exhibit brings to light the quiet\, physical remnants of Jewish life in Poland through the lens of an object both sacred and symbolic: the mezuzah. After the destruction of Poland’s Jewish communities during the Holocaust\, all that often remains of once-thriving Jewish homes are the subtle traces left behind: discoloration\, nail holes\, or indentations where mezuzot were once affixed. Mezuzah Traces documents these haunting imprints and recasts them as bronze mezuzot\, transforming void into presence\, and loss into remembrance. \nVisitors will explore a collection of these cast mezuzot\, each paired with the original location and story it represents. This exhibit bridges past and present\, faith and absence\, reminding us that memory can endure\, even in silence.Opening reception August 6\, 2026. Runs through February 26\, 2027.

SUMMARY:Fragility of Democracy Session 6 - "Judgment and Justice"
DESCRIPTION:Session 6 – Judgment and Justice: The Nuremberg Trials and the Meaning of Accountability.\n\n\nJoin us for the sixth session of the Fragility of Democracy workshop series. \nSession 6 – Judgment and Justice: The Nuremberg Trials and the Meaning of AccountabilityThe world had to define evil and decide what to do about it. \nAfter the Holocaust\, the Nuremberg Trials redefined international justice. This closing session looks at how lawyers\, judges\, and survivors turned memory into law\, creating terms like “crimes against humanity” and “genocide.” Participants reflect on how justice after atrocity shapes the moral conscience of free nations. \nKey Takeaway: Remembering is not enough. Democracy survives only when truth is defended and accountability endures.

SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the JCC Auditorium for Yom HaShoah.\n\n\nPlease join us on Sunday\, May 2\, 2027\, as we observe Yom HaShoah. \nYom Hashoah was inaugurated in 1953 as a day for the citizens of Israel to remember those murdered during the Holocaust. It is scheduled in the Jewish calendar on the 27th of Nisan\, which falls in April or May. \nIt marks the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 when Jews learned the Germans planned to deport all the people who remained in the Warsaw ghetto to Treblinka. A group of mostly young people formed an organized resistance. The leader of the resistance Mordecai Anielewicz issued a proclamation calling for the Jewish people to resist going to the railroad cars. Finally\, in a desperate last stand\, the remaining Jewish inhabitants of the walled-in enclave began a hopeless month-long battle against the Nazis. \nIt was the first time during the war that resistance fighters in an area under German control had staged an uprising. It would end in the complete destruction of the ghetto.
