CAJE Presents: Rabbi Shai Held

Loving Our Neighbor – What it Means & Why It’s So Hard
There is no more foundational commandment in Judaism than “love your neighbor.” But what do these words actually mean, and what do they demand of us? In this session, we’ll explore some of the most influential interpretations of the commandment and focus especially on one: the idea that we should be so open-hearted towards others that we want them to have everything we do. We’ll ask why this ideal is so important– and why it can be so difficult and even daunting for many of us. Along the way we’ll learn about Jewish approaches to self-worth, envy, and competitiveness.
Open to the community. No cost to attend. Registration is required.
